Maker: Possibly Thomas Furnival & Sons Elder Road, Cobridge, Staffordshire
Date of manufacture: It is difficult to date this piece. The impressed FURNIVAL mark suggests a possible date between 1864 and 1871, during the "Thomas Furnival" era of the company. However, this impressed mark must be treated with caution ... we have much later pieces bearing this mark. In our opinion, the design of the mark is more likely to date to the Thomas Furnival & Sons era of the company (1876 - 1890). This is also suggested by the impressed number 11, seen beneath the FURNIVAL mark. Other pieces that we have seen with this number tend to date to around 1879.
