IRONSTONE CHINA J.F.
Our research suggests that the initials J.F. refer to the firm of Jacob Furnival post-1852, after his "& Co." partnership with G. Oxley, S.B. Taylor and S.C. Pears had dissolved. As an ironstone manufacturer, Jacob Furnival made a huge variety of shapes, many in white, but often decorated with flow blue, mulberry, copper luster and polychrome transfer ware. The designs were mostly made as dinner, tea and chamber sets. It seems likely that the Panelled Grape design originated in the 1850's and was one of the most popular JF shapes, comprising eight panels with handle and spout decoration of grapes and vines.
Grateful thanks to Patricia Boss for very kindly giving us permission to publish these pictures of her beautiful, decorated Panelled Grape wash set.
Amazingly, since we first had contact with Patricia, someone in the States saw her post on the White Ironstone China Association Facebook page and offered to sell her the holder and mug. Pat has very kindly sent us this photograph and, once again, given us permission to publish it. Thank you!
Grateful thanks to ebay seller, bluedachsund1, for very kindly giving us permission to publish these pictures of their panelled grape bowl.
