OLD CHELSEA FURNIVALS LIMITED TRADE MARK ENGLAND RD.NO. 647812 This dates the registration of the pattern to 1915. This is another example of merely "Furnivals Limited" being retained on the backstamp AFTER the addition of the usual "1913" to the mark when the company changed name in January 1913.
From the 1970's, through to the end of 1999 Old Chelsea was manufactured by Wedgwood's Mason's Ironstone division at Hanley. They also produced other popular Furnivals patterns at the time, such as Quail and Denmark.
Type: Dinner and tea ware Colours: Blue; pink; multi-coloured
Old Chelsea copper plate from which the transfers for printing would be created.
This example would have been used for creating transfers for plates or bowls.
Grateful thanks to ebay shop bearbabycats for their kind permission to use these photos of their Old Chelsea Ashtray.
The company also issued a range of miniature (4 1/4") character plates under the company name of Furnivals Limited. The Registered No. shows that the designs were registered at the same time as the main Old Chelsea pattern.
The company also produced a range of miniature (4 1/4") plates featuring castles, also part of the Old Chelsea pattern.
