COBURG FURNIVALS LIMITED TRADE MARK ENGLAND RD NO: 539589 This dates the registration of the pattern to 1909
Type: Dinnerware Colours: White, blue, yellow. Pattern: White platter with blue and yellow border decoration - leaves and yellow flower in spotted square.
As may be seen on the mark, the name of the stockist is also recorded on the back of this platter: "A LA PAIX", 36 Avue de l'Opera, IMPORTE D' ANGLETERRE. It seems that this was a well-known Paris stockist of porcelain, crystal and earthenware.
According to Wikipedia, The Avenue de l'Opéra was created from 1864 to 1879 as part of Haussmann's renovation of Paris. It is situated in the centre of the city, running northwest from the Louvre to the Palais Garnier, the primary opera house of Paris (until the opening of the Opéra Bastille in 1989).
In 1909, the shop was bought by Georges Rouard (1874 - 1929). He sold luxury goods, plus manufactured his own line of decorative glass and porcelain in the workshop. This he sold under the name of Rouard.
The shop earned a reputation as a high end china, art pottery and glass store. It was particularly noted for the elaborately gilded and finely hand painted china they produced for Cartier in the 1920s, and also for the Cubist and other art moderne work of a number of talented avant-garde ceramic artists.
It seems that they also stocked a number of Furnivals patterns!
