Book of Pottery Marks (1897), by William Percival Jervis.
Brief histories of Furnivals may be found in a number of highly respected publications and websites. However, precise dates and company names vary.
For the purpose of this website, I have used the dates and company names presented by world-renowned ceramics expert, the late Geoffrey A. Godden, F.R.S.A. as the basis for my information. However, during the course of my research, where I have discovered information which may suggest a different date or company name I have included this as an alternative. I would be very pleased to receive any comments or views on the feasibility of these.

1839 Jacob and Thomas Furnival took over the premises of Phoebe Johnson at the Stafford Street Pottery Works, Miles Bank, Shelton, Hanley, Staffordshire.
1967 Barratt's of Staffordshire acquired the factory. The factory was closed in 1968.
1969 The Company trade name was purchased by Enoch Wedgwood (Tunstall) Limited which, in its turn, was taken over by the Wedgwood Group, to avoid on-going confusion with the use of the name. After a time, as the Enoch Wedgwood works began to wind-down, manufacture of certain of the Furnival patterns were taken on by another Wedgwood Group member, the Mason's factory in Broad Street, Hanley, Stoke-on Trent. For a while the Furnivals backstamp was used on wares, but then patterns such as 'Blue Nordic' began to appear for a short time under the Mason's backstamp.
