"Writting my Family history I was looking at my great-great-grandparents. And here is their story.
Knud Christian Sørensen born 1850 in Blåvand and Ane Pedersen born 1857 also in Blåvand. They grew up next to each other and in November 1878 they got married. For their marriage the friends and neigbours had found a plate from a shipwreck. This being in the poorest part of Denmark at that time, they relied very much on extra things that came in as shipwrecks, also because of the hard weather along the west cost of Jutland. And Blåvand is placed as the west point of Denmark, so the Northsea is harsh here. |
They found this plate which was still intact and decided to use it as a present for the young couple. It has been preserved in my family ever since, and when I decided to write the family history I looked up what kind of plate it was.
I include a picture of Knud and Ane, cotting sheep on their farm where they lived their whole life, and a picture of the plate + the back of it. As far as I can see, this pattern was intruduced in 1876, which would make sense." Thank you so much for that wonderful story, Lisbeth! It is so lovely to hear about - and even see a photograph of - the people who used and treasured their Furnivals pottery! |
