Furnivals (1913) Limited
This style of stamp is more unusual. At first sight, it would appear that this piece was made between 1890 and 1895, during the period in which the company used the name, "Furnivals". However, a trace of the Viking ship bearing the name, "Furnivals (1913) Ltd.", just visible alongside the Furnivals stamp, confirms that this is a later product of the factory.
The generic name of "Furnivals" was frequently used during the 1913 period and beyond, sometimes as late as the latter part of the 20th century, during Mason's ownership of the factory. It is therefore very important to be cautious when dating items bearing a "Furnivals" stamp. If the piece looks much newer than you would expect for pottery produced during the late 19th century, it probably is ... it is likely that it dates towards the latter part of the 20th century! Not forgery ... just recycling of backstamps!! |
